The Multiverse of Bazinga: Which ‘Big Bang Theory’ Legends are Crossing Dimensions for Stuart’s New Spin-off?

The sitcom landscape of the early 2000s left a permanent dent in our collective culture, creating a heritage of “geek chic” that defined a generation. Now, seven years after the final curtain call of The Big Bang Theory, the franchise is undergoing a massive mechanical overhaul. HBO Max is set to premiere Stuart Fails to Save the Universe on July 23, 2026, a series that trades the laugh track for a high-stakes, multiverse-spanning sci-fi adventure.

While the core cast features Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), Denise (Lauren Lapkus), and the ever-antagonistic Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), the “multiverse” premise provides the perfect engine for legacy cameos. Here are the original “beings” most likely to encounter Stuart on his quest to restore reality.

1. Wil Wheaton (Confirmed)

The first legend on our list isn’t a “maybe.” Wil Wheaton, playing the heightened, chaotic version of himself, was spotted in the latest teaser trailer. As a recurring “frenemy” in the original series, Wheaton is the quintessential guide for a sci-fi pivot like this one.

2. Penny Hofstadter (Kaley Cuoco)

Kaley Cuoco has essentially confirmed her return via the “universal language of the eyes.” In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cuoco’s refusal to say “no”—paired with a pointed stare directly into the camera—sent fans into a frenzy. While she is currently preparing for her second child, the “multiverse” allows for quick, impactful cameos that wouldn’t require a grueling production schedule.

3. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons)

If the original series was the “engine,” Sheldon was the fuel. Cocreator Chuck Lorre has described Parsons’ involvement as a “closely guarded piece of information.” While Parsons has moved on to various dramatic roles, his voice remains the soul of the franchise (as seen in Young Sheldon). A multiverse without a Sheldon Cooper would be a mechanical failure of the highest order.

4. Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch)

Timing is everything in Hollywood. Melissa Rauch has recently been on an intensive press tour reflecting on her years as Bernadette. Enthusiasts know that “nostalgia tours” are often a calculated move to drum up buzz for an unannounced appearance. Seeing a “multiverse” version of a tiny, terrifyingly powerful Bernadette is a spectacle we can’t wait to see.

5. Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg)

Helberg has been playing it cool, claiming there are “no plans” for Howard to return. However, Helberg is a master of the “coy” interview. Having already reprised the role via voiceover in Young Sheldon, the path for a physical return is already well-maintained.

6. Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar)

Though Nayyar hasn’t stepped back into Raj’s sweater vests since 2019, he remains one of the spin-off’s loudest cheerleaders on social media. His public support for Kevin Sussman suggests that if the script is right, the “being” formerly known as Raj is ready to cross the cosmic bridge.

7. Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik)

Bialik has been refreshingly honest, stating she hasn’t been contacted yet. However, she expressed that it would be a “thrill” to return. In a multiverse story co-written by Zak Penn (Ready Player One), the scientific mind of Amy Farrah Fowler is a narrative necessity.

8. Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki)

The “long shot” of the group. Since TBBT ended, Galecki has traded the Hollywood hills for a quiet life in Nashville, focusing on his family. Chuck Lorre claims he has taken a “blood oath” regarding Galecki’s involvement. Whether that means Galecki is out for good or hiding in the shadows of a secret Munich-style garage remains to be seen.
